Aging on My Terms

When I wrote about Switching Gears at 52, I talked about entering this stage of my life with a different mindset.

My daughters are growing up. Life is changing. My priorities are shifting. And instead of looking at this chapter as something I should be afraid of, I’m choosing to look at it as an opportunity to really focus on me—my health, my strength, my goals, and how I want to feel moving forward.

And yes, that includes how I age.

I’ve always taken care of myself. I’ve been training and competing for decades, nutrition has always been a huge part of my lifestyle, and I’ve probably spent more hours in a gym than I could ever count. But at 52, taking care of myself looks a little different than it did at 32.

I’m not trying to stop aging.

I’m trying to age well.

And lately, one of the things I’ve incorporated into my healthy-aging routine is GHK-Cu, also known as copper peptides.

So, Why Copper Peptides?

The simple answer? Because I’m always looking for ways to support my body as it changes.

GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring peptide in our bodies that binds to copper. It’s become especially well known in the skincare and wellness world because of its potential role in supporting collagen, skin health, repair, and regeneration.

Those are all things that become a little more important when you hit your 50s!

I’ve definitely noticed that my body doesn’t respond exactly the way it did when I was younger. My skin changes. Recovery changes. Maintaining muscle takes more intention. Sleep matters more. Stress matters more.

I’ve realized that I can’t necessarily control the fact that I’m getting older—but I can control how I take care of myself while I’m doing it.

That’s the part I love.

I Want to Look Good—And I’m Okay Saying That

Let’s be real: I care about my skin.

I care about how I look.

I also care about how I feel when I look in the mirror.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to maintain healthy-looking skin, muscle, and confidence as we get older. For me, taking care of my appearance isn’t about trying to become someone younger. It’s about taking care of the woman I am right now.

That’s one of the biggest reasons copper peptides caught my attention.

GHK-Cu has been studied for its potential role in supporting collagen and elastin and the body’s natural skin-repair processes. And while there’s still a lot we’re learning about peptides, I love the idea of supporting my skin rather than simply trying to cover up the signs of aging.

I don’t need to look 25.

I want to look like a healthy, strong, confident 52-year-old woman.

Recovery Has Become Just as Important as Training

This has probably been one of my biggest mindset shifts.

For most of my life, I’ve been very good at pushing.

Train harder. Do another set. Add more weight. Keep going.

But longevity isn’t just about how hard you can push your body. It’s also about how well you take care of it afterward.

At this stage of my life, recovery has become a much bigger priority. I’m more intentional about sleep, nutrition, mobility, hydration, and giving my body what it needs.

GHK-Cu interests me because researchers have also explored its potential role in tissue repair and recovery. I don’t look at it as some magical solution, and I certainly don’t think it replaces the basics. It’s simply another tool I’ve chosen to explore as part of my overall wellness routine.

There’s No Magic Anti-Aging Formula

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you probably already know I’m not someone who believes that one product is going to transform your health.

You can’t inject, supplement, cream, or shortcut your way around taking care of yourself.

I still train.

I still prioritize protein and nutrition.

I still drink my water.

I still work on getting enough sleep.

I still have to manage stress.

And I still have days when I don’t do any of those things perfectly.

That’s life.

Copper peptides aren’t replacing any of those habits. They’re simply something I’ve added to the toolbox.

And I think that’s an important distinction, especially with how much information we’re seeing about peptides on social media right now.

I’m Not Anti-Aging. I’m Pro-Aging Well.

Maybe that’s the biggest thing that’s changed for me at 52.

I’m not fighting my age.

There was probably a time when saying my age out loud felt different. Now? I’m proud of it.

I’m proud of the body I’ve built.

I’m proud of everything this body has carried me through.

I’m proud of being a mom.

I’m proud of the years I’ve spent competing.

I’m proud that I’m still setting new goals instead of telling myself that my best years are behind me.

And I want to keep doing this for a very long time.

I want to be strong in my 50s.

I want to be strong in my 60s.

And when I get to my 70s, I hope I’m still moving, lifting, learning, traveling, creating, and probably finding another project to throw myself into.

That’s what healthy aging means to me.

This Is What Switching Gears Looks Like

Switching gears at 52 isn’t about slowing down.

For me, it’s actually been the opposite.

It’s about becoming more intentional with my time, my body, and my health. It’s about realizing that I have a lot of life ahead of me—and I want to feel really good while I’m living it.

GHK-Cu is one small part of that journey.

Will my wellness routine continue to evolve? Absolutely. I’m constantly learning, asking questions, and figuring out what works for me.

But one thing I know for sure is that I’m done looking at aging like it’s something we’re supposed to fear.

Getting older is happening either way.

I just plan on getting stronger, healthier, wiser, and a whole lot more confident while I do it.

And if that’s what 52 looks like?

I’m here for it.
