The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it. – Peter Pan
I want my daughters to always believe that they can fly. Whatever their dream, whatever their goal is…I want them to BELIEVE that they can achieve it. Whenever I find myself doubting my ability to accomplish a goal or finish a job, I refer to the lessons that I have used to teach my daughters how to get past any disbelief that they might have had in the past. I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it several more times in my life but it’s amazing to me how we easily forget the advice we give to others, when we need it most ourselves. For some reason it’s much easier to help someone else out, or build them up that it is ourselves. I feel fortunate enough to have learned (slowly) that the lesson’s I’m teaching my girls can be an even bigger lesson for myself, if I can get out of my own way and allow myself to be a student again.
One of my favorite quotes that has really helped me when trying to teach my daughters valuable lessons in life:
Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn.
